Le Panier d'Aimé is a fine-food grocery of the terroir, rooted in Montpellier since 2011 and devoted to the wines and produce of the South of France. From its home in the historic centre — just steps from the lovely Place de la Canourgue, at 6 rue du Plan du Palais — it sets out to share the sheer gustatory richness of the Occitanie region and the wider Midi, a land brimming with vitality and a deeply respected savoir-faire.
The philosophy is personal and heartfelt. Everything on the shelves has been chosen for its taste or its originality, but also for the pleasure the team took in meeting the people who make it. Today the shop brings together around 220 producers, farmers, and winegrowers, and more than 2,500 products — and it's always on the lookout for new partners who share its standards of quality and ethics. Tasting, here, is something of an institution: producers are regularly put in the spotlight, so you're warmly invited to come and try, chat, and leave with your next favourite find.
One of its signatures is an exceptional bulk range of salts, peppers, and spices — some 200 varieties to explore by weight, from a rare blue rock salt to a colourful red salt and a whole world of dried chillies and seasonings. Around them unfolds a generous selection across every register: on the savoury side, apéritif spreads, foie gras, caviar and truffle, seafood, terrines and charcuterie, ready dishes, oils, vinegars, condiments, and sauces; on the sweet side, jams and coulis, honeys, biscuits and cakes, confectionery and nougat, chocolate and spreads. There's a thoughtful drinks range too — teas, infusions, coffees, juices, and syrups — and a proper cave of regional wines, sparkling, beers, spirits, and aperitifs, plus ready-made gourmet gift boxes.
What makes it special is the balance between proudly local treasures and well-travelled discoveries. You'll find Languedoc wines from passionate growers, the artisanal Escalettes de Montpellier baked to an ancestral recipe, and other makers who keep regional traditions alive, sitting alongside carefully curated finds from further afield — artisanal kombuchas, a historic Belgian chocolatier, Middle-Eastern condiments, and the odd festive showpiece.
Whether you're local or just passing through on a holiday or a work trip, Le Panier d'Aimé is a warm, knowledgeable spot to taste, browse, and be guided — a place where the team's genuine passion for southern producers and their terroir is on show in every bite, right in the heart of Montpellier.
